Family Support

Our local families are creative, innovative, and resilient, and have much to offer the community despite the circumstances they may face. In cooperation with our community partners, we provide educational classes and workshops for parents and children that will enrich and better their lives.

Mujeres Fuertes

"Strong Women" is an empowerment program developed at the Esperanza Community Center in West Palm Beach to encourage Spanish-speaking women immigrants with young children to share their stories and recognize their strengths and worth. The program consists of workshops led by professionals experienced in public health, social work, and social and community development. Babysitting is provided, and children are engaged in educational and age-appropriate activities and games while moms are in the workshops. Participants who complete the program have the tools to establish and demand more reciprocal relationships, defend their rights, and advocate for their children's medical and educational needs. The women can see themselves and know they are worthy and capable and can enrich the lives of the greater West Palm Beach community.

We thank the Children's Services Council Palm Beach County for funding this program.

Al-Anon

Al‑Anon is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. We offer support to those families in our community negatively affected by a loved one's abuse of alcohol. By sharing common experiences and applying the educational principles on addiction, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic admits the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help.

Infant & Baby Support

Registered families receive diapers, baby wipes, and potty training kits. Our participants love that the baby diaper program brings together their families and enables them to receive support from each other and the Esperanza staff. The program's workshops have created discussions of complex situations affecting the lives of the parents and their families.

We thank Cotton Bottom Baby Diaper Bank for their support of this program.

Food & Nutrition

Nutrition and basic healthy living education are important to fostering a vibrant community. We provide periodic nutrition and healthy living classes to our families in the community. The Esperanza Community Center also partners with other nonprofit organizations to distribute food on an as-available basis to residents in the Northwood area. These residents may have an emergency need for food for themselves and/or their families.

When we have access to food for distribution, we will publicize this opportunity to those we serve. We adjust our food distribution methods to match the food availability, current needs in the community, and the stipulation of partnering organizations when food is available.

Health Screenings & Dental Care

The Esperanza Center is currently working to provide health and wellness screenings in collaboration with community partners that serve our area residents. We also assist various city departments and county organizations to arrange for testing and vaccinations on a regular basis when needed.

Aside from general healthcare, we coordinate providing dental care for children via the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s mobile dental center. Events are held monthly with 15 children receiving basic dental care that includes a checkup, x-rays, cleaning, and treatment plan if needed, at each visit.

We thank Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Mobile Dental Center for their support of this program.

How can you get involved?

We are grateful for the individuals and organizations that volunteer and support us; we could not do it without your help. Volunteers are essential to the Esperanza Center's success, and your donations continue to support our mission. You can learn more about how you can help us help others.
