Community Enrichment

Enriquecimiento comunitario
Anrichisman Kominote

The Northern West Palm Beach communities are rich in history and culture. We wish to preserve the unique flavor of our communities while offering services and classes to help everyone wishing to increase their opportunities by gaining knowledge and new skills. All area residents are welcome at our Center.

Adult English & Literacy Education

The Mexican government makes Plazas Comunitarias, an adult literacy program for Spanish speakers living in the United States, available at the Center. The program is intended to help young adults and adults who, for some reason, did not have the opportunity to learn to read, write, start, or complete their primary or high school education. Plazas Comunitarias is available to Spanish-speaking adults and young people over 15.

We thank the Mexican Consulate in Miami for making Plazas Comunitarias possible.

ESOL

We offer English as a Second Language classes to young adults and adult learners. Our students are introduced to grammar, reading, and conversational English, which help prepare them for additional schooling and better job opportunities. Morning classes are offered in partnership with the West Palm Beach Mandel Library, with evening classes taught by volunteers.

Computer Skills

Our computer lab is always buzzing with activity and energy. Classes are held twice a week. Students are introduced to basic computer skills and web navigation and enjoy using the lab to work on school projects or small businesses.

Financial Literacy

The Esperanza Center partners with our local PNC Bank to hold financial education classes and workshops. The bank also deploys a mobile unit to our location a couple of times a month, allowing our families and area residents to seek financial resources in a safe place. Clients can open bank accounts, receive assistance with their accounts, and much more.

Civic Education & Legal Support

We strongly believe in civic awareness and hold educational workshops on civic awareness, the voting process, and the importance of participating in the US Census. We also partner with Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County to connect our community with access to information on workers' rights, wage theft, and the United States legal system.

We thank the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County for supporting this program.

Annual Cultural Heritage Festival

Our diverse community celebrates during our annual cultural heritage festival in October. Many people are familiar with Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place in the United States from mid-September to early October. Although many of our families identify as Hispanic and Latino, our Maya population does not. In recent years, we have welcomed families from Haiti, Central America, and South American countries. To be inclusive and welcome all residents living in our service area, we hold a cultural heritage event inviting area residents to share part of their culture with festival attendees. Our annual cultural event features music, food, cultural dances, and family fun.

How can you get involved?

We are grateful for the individuals and organizations that volunteer and support us; we could not do it without your help. Volunteers are essential to the Esperanza Center's success, and your donations continue to support our mission. You can learn more about how you can help us help others.
