ADULT EDUCATION
Plazas Comunitarias
About The Program
The Mexican government makes available Plazas Comunitarias, an adult literacy program for Spanish speakers living in the United States. The program is intended to help young adults and adults who, for some reason, did not have the opportunity to learn to read, write, start, or complete their primary or high school education. Must be 15 years or older to participate.
Plazas Comunitarias are centers that offer various community or educational services in the United States. A local Mexican Consulate and INEA in Mexico develops educational models, didactic materials, and systems for evaluating learning and coordinating the programs. Plazas Comunitarias is available to Spanish-speaking adults and young people over 15.

Objectives
- Expand educational, social, labor, and identity opportunities to the migrant community.
- Promote, operate, and monitor essential education services (literacy, primary, and secondary) for young people 15 years or older and Spanish-speaking adults outside their national territory.
Operation of Plazas Comunitarias
- Through the Consulates of Mexico in the United States, the IME offers economic and in-kind support, as well as information on the programs and direct communication with the Plazas to support them in the social activities that the migrant community needs.
- Partner organizations offer spaces such as classrooms, materials, computers, volunteers, and coordinators, who are regularly trained by the Consulate and INEA personnel.
- INEA provides technical advice, training, registration, evaluation systems, official certification procedures, and documents in educational matters.
The Esperanza Center offers Plazas twice a week in the evenings. Weekly class days and hours vary. Space is limited. For more information, call our office at (561) 560-3558, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
We wish to thank the Mexican Consulate in Miami for making Plazas Comunitaris possible for our community in the Northend of the City of West Palm Beach.
